Setting Up a Modbus Device in Sonitrol CORE
There are a few steps to add Modbus devices to the Sonitrol CORE:
- Log on to the Sonitrol CORE.
- From the left navigation pane, click Hardware.

From the top navigation bar, click Profiles.
- In the Hardware Profiles page, find and select the site profile to which you wish to add a device.

Click Edit on the profile tile. You can also click
and select Edit from the list. -
In the Edit Profile page, click the Configurations tab.
- In the S1000 section, select the specific S1000 then click configure on the tile.
- Click the Serial tab.

In the Non -Isolated section, complete the details:
Field
Description
Protocol Type
Select Modbus from the drop-down list.
Baud Rate
Select 9600 from the drop-down list.
Parity
Select None from the drop-down list.
Stop Bits
Select One from the drop-down list.
Note: Make sure that you select the correct port where the Modbus device is connected.
Onboard Isolated - the Modbus device is using the PL4-PL5 connection on the S1000.
Onboard Non-Isolated - the Modbus device is using the PL5-PL6 connection on the S1000. - Click Reset.
- Log on to the Sonitrol CORE.
- From the left navigation pane, click Hardware.

From the top navigation bar, click Profiles.
- In the Hardware Profiles page, find and select the site profile to which you wish to add a device.

Click Edit on the profile tile. You can also click
and select Edit from the list. -
In the Edit Profile page, click the Configurations tab.
- Go to the Device section, click New Device then select Modbus from the drop-down list.
The Add New Modbus wizard displays.

Select a template on the Select Template page, depending on the type of Modbus device that is being added.
Or choose the Default Template.
- Click Next.

On the Add Modbus dialog box, complete the details.
Field
Description
Name
Enter a unique and meaningful name.
The name should contain only alphanumeric characters and no spaces.
Up to 255 characters can be used.
Description
Enter more information about the Modbus device.
General
Logical ID
Enter a unique identifier for the device connected to the S1000 Controller. Allowed range is 0-254.
Serial Port
Click + to find and select a serial port.
Available options:
- Onboard Isolated - the Modbus device is using the PL4-PL5 connection on the S1000.
- Onboard Non-isolated - the Modbus device is using the PL5-PL6 connection on the S1000.
Device Loop Address
Enter the DIP switch numerical value.
Area
Click + to find and select the area where the device is located.
Reporting
Report Events
Turn on the toggle to record events.
Report To
Select the connection paths where the recorded events will be reported. Select the checkbox next to the option on the drop-down list or select the Select All checkbox.
High Priority
Turn on the toggle to assign high priority to this device.
- Click Next.

On the Create Additional Points screen, tick the checkboxes next to the data points for them to be added.
Sonitrol CORE automatically creates the associated inputs, outputs and readers. Each must then be configured from their respective sections on the Hardware Profile page.
- Click Create.
