Caution:  Installation must comply in accordance with National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA70) or Canadian Electrical Code (as applicable) and must only be performed by personnel trained in intrinsically safe systems. Improper installation may result in serious injury or damage.
Before installing, read and understand these instructions completely.

Warning: The enclosure must be connected to earth / ground. Make sure all devices are properly grounded. Make sure that the enclosure and device earthing is to manufacturer specifications.
Do not over tighten PCB mounting screws.

The enclosure is made of 1.2mm mildsteel (SPCC) with dimensions 457 x 432 x 178mm (18 x 17 x 7") and packed weight 9.5kg (21lbs).

ENCL L STD 1010 01PD enclosure mounting and grounding.Enclosures must be wall mounted in a secure, dry location for protection against tampering and the elements. Due to weight, especially if backup batteries are required, it is important to mount enclosures to a sturdy surface using adequate fasteners (4 M6 or ¼" screws recommended). When mounting, be sure to leave room for the door to open. Door locks should be easily accessible. The adjacent diagram shows enclosure mounting holes (A), mounting plate lugs (C), if required, and removable sections (B) for cable runs.

Fasteners (RoHS compliant) are supplied for mounting plates, where required. If the power supply being used to power the controller/PCBs does not provide an earth connection, an external earth ground wire must be attached to the enclosure to protect the equipment from voltage transients. To ground the enclosure, secure the ground wire to one of the screws used to fasten the component mounting plate to the enclosure.

The S1000 Controller is supplied with screws and metal stand-offs that are used for earthing. Remove the mounting plate from the enclosure before installation. Use the mounting plate guide shown as a visual cue.

Use the following PCB installation layouts for a range of hardware, including mounting screw positions. Only the mounting plate is shown.

Tamper switches and locks for the ENCL-L-STD.

  1. Fasten the lever-type switch to the threaded inserts in the top wall of the enclosure using 2 M3 screws (1).
  2. Check that the switch lever is not bent and that closing the door results in the switch closing.
  1. Remove the knock-out at the rear of the enclosure, under the switch bracket.
  2. Push the plunger-type switch, terminals first, from outside the enclosure until it snaps into position (2).

Enclosure connections to tamper switches. 

  1. Connect the tamper switch wiring assemblies to the switches, make sure that the wires are connected to the Common and Normally Open switch terminals.
  2. Connect the tamper switch wiring assemblies IN SERIES to the lid tamper sensor S7 on the S1000 Controller.
  3. Disable the S8 connector by placing a shorting plug on the 2-pin header.
Note: For some PCBs, you must remove the pin-header from the tamper switch wiring assembly and strip the wires back so they can be inserted into the appropriate screw terminals on the PCB. See the appropriate installation guides for details.

To maintain UL compliance when installing the S1000 Controller in an enclosure with a power supply, an AC surge suppressor must be included. For more information, see Additional installation instructions for the SP1-PSU-2A-UL kit.

  1. Install and secure the battery using the items provided in the accessory bag.

  2. Connect the battery cables to the 2-pin connector at PL7.

For some installations, enclosure doors must have a lock installed.

Enclosure lock for ENCL L STD.

  1. Insert the lock barrel through the cutout in the enclosure door, from the outside, and secure it with the nut.
  2. Align the cam in the locked position.
  3. Secure the cam to the base of the lock with the screw.

When correctly installed, the lock should look like the diagram when viewed from inside the enclosure.

Make sure that any required compliance labels are stuck to the left-hand side of the enclosure.

For non-compliant installations, remove compliance labels as necessary. When sticking labels to the enclosure, use the diagram as a guide to the location. For multiple labels, allow 10mm (0.4") spacing from other labels.

It is recommended to clean the mounting surfaces with a suitable solvent that leaves no residue before pasting the label into position, then allow 24 hours curing time to elapse before placing the enclosure into service.

For UL compliant installations, the enclosure kit includes the following labels:

  • UL Transmission Function label - This label must be stuck to the mounting plate next to the S1000 Controller as shown in the adjacent diagram:

    Ensure that the label is clearly visible and not covered.

  • UL Accessory Type label - This label must be stuck on the inside of the enclosure door.

  1. Mount the bracket assembly on the base plate of the enclosure using the screws. (A)

  2. Strap the AC Adapter in using the Velcro straps. Make sure the strap is firmly fastened around the AC Adapter. (B)

  3. Mount the Surge Suppressor on the base plate of the enclosure using the standoff to attach it to the base plate with the supplied screws at the three locations shown in the picture. (C)

  4. Connect the DC output from the Adapter to the controller DC input connector. (D)

  5. Slide the power supply mains cable to pass through the designated cable aperture. For cord connected installations, a strain relief cord connector (from Arlington LPCG754 or similar) must be used for the AC mains cable going through the knock-out hole. (E)

    Note: For CAN/ULC 60839-11-1:2022 application, surge suppressor and earth harness must be connected to the terminal block. For more information, see Additional installation instructions for the SP1-PSU-2A-UL kit.

The enclosure accessories include a Dialight LED indicator (part number: 559-6204-007F) and an AC ON sticker. The AC indicator is a green LED, which is illuminated when AC is present. Mount the LED indicator if you are mounting the power supply in the enclosure.

  1. Insert the LED indicator into the hole on the enclosure lid.

  2. Connect the LED wires to the power supply input to the controller.

  3. Stick the AC ON sticker around the LED light.
